## Actions

### Check a name

Check whether a name is a real person's name. Clearout's model catches the keyboard mash, the joke and the profanity that a sign-up form collects, which no pattern match can. Costs two Clearout credits.

**Inputs**

- Name (`name`, text, required): The name to check, for example Jane Doe.
- Gibberish detection (`gibberish_detection`, text): How hard to look for a keyboard mash. Lower this if real names are being turned away. One of: `off`, `medium`, `high`. Default: `high`.

**Outputs**

- `gibberish` (true/false): True when the name is a keyboard mash rather than a name.
- `name` (text): The name that was checked.
- `profanity` (true/false): True when the name contains profanity.
- `result` (text): Clearout's verdict on the name, such as 'valid' or 'invalid'.
- `status` (text): Status of the action execution ("success" on success).
- `time_taken` (number): How long the check took, in milliseconds.

**Example output**

```json
{
  "gibberish": false,
  "name": "Jane Doe",
  "profanity": false,
  "result": "valid",
  "status": "success",
  "time_taken": 61
}
```

### Check verification progress

See how far Clearout has got through a list. 100% means every address has been verified; Clearout then takes a few seconds more to build the results file, which 'Get verification results' waits for on its own. This is free and costs no credits.

**Inputs**

- List (`list_id`, text, required): The list to act on. Pick one, or use the id that 'Verify a list of email addresses' returned -- a list created moments ago is newer than the names offered here.

**Outputs**

- `list_id` (text): The list that was checked.
- `percent_complete` (number): How far through the list Clearout is, from 0 to 100.
- `progress_status` (text): What Clearout is doing with the list, e.g. 'completed'.
- `status` (text): Status of the action execution ("success" on success).

**Example output**

```json
{
  "list_id": "5c60eb454506101c9d2f7b17",
  "percent_complete": 100,
  "progress_status": "completed",
  "status": "success"
}
```

### Delete a list

Remove a list from Clearout for good. Its results go with it unless you keep them. This cannot be undone. Deleting costs no credits, and does not refund the ones the list spent.

**Inputs**

- List (`list_id`, text, required): The list to act on. Pick one, or use the id that 'Verify a list of email addresses' returned -- a list created moments ago is newer than the names offered here.
- Keep the results (`keep_results`, true/false): Leave the verification results behind after the list itself is gone, so they can still be downloaded. Default: `false`.

**Outputs**

- `deleted` (true/false): True once Clearout removed the list.
- `kept_results` (true/false): True when the results were left behind.
- `list_id` (text): The list that was deleted.
- `status` (text): Status of the action execution ("success" on success).

**Example output**

```json
{
  "deleted": true,
  "kept_results": false,
  "list_id": "5c60eb454506101c9d2f7b17",
  "status": "success"
}
```

### Find an email address

Find someone's work email address from their name and their company. Clearout verifies each address before returning it, so anything it finds is already checked. Costs four Clearout credits, or two for a role address, and nothing when no address is found.

**Inputs**

- Person's name (`name`, text, required): Their full name, for example Jane Doe.
- Company (`company`, text, required): Their company's name or website, for example Example Corp or example.com.
- Wait up to (seconds) (`wait_seconds`, number): How long to keep looking before giving up. A search that needs longer carries on at Clearout and its result appears there under Activities. From 5 to 180. Default: `60`.

**Outputs**

- `company_name` (text): The company's name.
- `confidence_score` (number): How confident Clearout is, from 0 to 100.
- `domain` (text): The company domain that was searched.
- `email_address` (text): The best address Clearout found, or empty when it found none. This is the field to use.
- `emails` (list): Every address Clearout found, best first.
- `first_name` (text): The person's first name.
- `found` (true/false): True when an address was found.
- `found_on` (text): When the search ran (ISO-8601).
- `full_name` (text): The person's full name.
- `last_name` (text): The person's last name.
- `message` (text): What to do next, when Clearout is still searching. Empty otherwise.
- `status` (text): Status of the action execution ("success" on success).
- `still_searching` (true/false): True when Clearout ran out of the time it was given and is still looking in the background.
- `total` (number): How many addresses were found.

**Example output**

```json
{
  "company_name": "Example Corp",
  "confidence_score": 96,
  "domain": "example.com",
  "email_address": "jane.doe@example.com",
  "emails": [
    {
      "business": true,
      "email_address": "jane.doe@example.com",
      "role": false
    }
  ],
  "first_name": "Jane",
  "found": true,
  "found_on": "2026-09-18T12:44:02.000Z",
  "full_name": "Jane Doe",
  "last_name": "Doe",
  "message": "",
  "status": "success",
  "still_searching": false,
  "total": 1
}
```

### Get remaining credits

See how many Clearout credits are left, broken down by where they came from. Use it to stop a large job before it runs out part-way. This is free and costs no credits.

**Inputs**: None.

**Outputs**

- `bonus_credits` (number): Free and promotional credits.
- `low_credit_balance_min_threshold` (number): The balance at which Clearout sends its low-credit alert.
- `pay_as_you_go_credits` (number): Credits bought as pay-as-you-go.
- `status` (text): Status of the action execution ("success" on success).
- `subscription_credits` (number): Credits from the account's subscription.
- `total_remaining_credits` (number): Every credit still available, added together.

**Example output**

```json
{
  "bonus_credits": 100,
  "low_credit_balance_min_threshold": 50,
  "pay_as_you_go_credits": 14463,
  "status": "success",
  "subscription_credits": 100000,
  "total_remaining_credits": 114563
}
```

### Get verification results

Get a link to the finished results of a list, as a spreadsheet holding every address and its verdict. Clearout builds that file after the last address is verified, so this waits for it rather than refusing. The link is temporary, so use it in the same run. This is free and costs no credits.

**Inputs**

- List (`list_id`, text, required): The list to act on. Pick one, or use the id that 'Verify a list of email addresses' returned -- a list created moments ago is newer than the names offered here.

**Outputs**

- `list_id` (text): The list the results belong to.
- `results_url` (text): A temporary link to the results spreadsheet. It expires shortly after this step runs.
- `status` (text): Status of the action execution ("success" on success).

**Example output**

```json
{
  "list_id": "5c60eb454506101c9d2f7b17",
  "results_url": "https://clearout.s3.amazonaws.com/results/newsletter_signups_clearout_results.csv",
  "status": "success"
}
```

### List your email lists

List the email lists on the Clearout account, newest first, with the id each one is addressed by. Narrow it to when a list was created or what state it is in. This is free and costs no credits.

**Inputs**

- Created (`created`, text): Only lists created in this window. Leave blank for the last 7 days, which is what Clearout shows by default. One of: `ps_today` (Today), `ps_yesterday` (Yesterday), `ps_last_24_hours` (The last 24 hours), `ps_this_week_mon_today` (This week (from Monday)), `ps_last_7_days_including_today` (The last 7 days), `ps_last_week_mon_sun` (Last week (Monday to Sunday)), `ps_this_month` (This month), `ps_last_30_days` (The last 30 days).
- State (`state`, text): Only lists in this state. Leave blank for every state. One of: `non_verified` (Not verified yet), `in_progress` (Being verified now), `verified`, `cancelled` (Stopped part-way).
- Maximum results (`limit`, number): How many lists to return, up to 100. From 1 to 100. Default: `10`.
- Next page (`page_token`, text): To read the next page, use the 'page_token' this action returned. Leave blank for the first page.

**Outputs**

- `count` (number): How many lists were returned.
- `has_more` (true/false): True when there is another page.
- `lists` (list): The lists on the account, newest first.
- `page_token` (text): Send this back as 'Next page' to read the next page. Empty when there are no more.
- `status` (text): Status of the action execution ("success" on success).

    }
  ],
  "page_token": "",
  "status": "success"
}
```
### Look up a company by domain
**Inputs**
- Domain (`domain`, text, required): The company's website, for example example.com.
  },
  "status": "success"
}
```

### Stop verifying a list

Stop a list that is part-way through being verified. Clearout keeps the results for the addresses it already checked and spends credits on those only; the rest are left unverified. Stopping can take up to fifteen minutes to take effect. A list that is not being verified (finished, stopped already, or never started) is reported rather than treated as a failure.

**Inputs**

- List (`list_id`, text, required): The list to act on. Pick one, or use the id that 'Verify a list of email addresses' returned -- a list created moments ago is newer than the names offered here.

**Outputs**

- `cancelled` (true/false): True when Clearout stopped a verification that was running. False when there was nothing to stop.
- `list_id` (text): The list this was aimed at.
- `reason` (text): Why nothing was stopped, when nothing was. Empty when the verification was stopped.
- `status` (text): Status of the action execution ("success" on success).

**Example output**

```json
{
  "cancelled": true,
  "list_id": "5c60eb454506101c9d2f7b17",
  "reason": "",
  "status": "success"
}
```

### Verify a list of email addresses

Start verifying a whole list of addresses at once. Clearout works through it in the background and answers straight away with the list's id: use 'Check verification progress' to follow it and 'Get verification results' to download the outcome. Duplicates are dropped before the list is sent. Costs one Clearout credit per address, charged as each one is verified.

**Inputs**

- Email addresses (`emails`, list, required): The addresses to verify. Usually a list from an earlier step, such as a column of a spreadsheet.
- List name (`name`, text): What to call this list in Clearout. Leave it blank and it is named after today's date.
- Optimise for (`optimize_for`, text): Whether Clearout should take the time to be as accurate as it can, or get through the list as fast as it can. One of: `highest_accuracy` (Highest accuracy), `fastest_turnaround` (Fastest turnaround). Default: `highest_accuracy`.

**Outputs**

- `email_count` (number): How many addresses were sent, after duplicates.
- `list_id` (text): The new list's id. The other list actions take this.
- `name` (text): The name the list was given in Clearout.
- `optimize_for` (text): What the verification was optimised for.
- `status` (text): Status of the action execution ("success" on success).

**Example output**

```json
{
  "email_count": 1240,
  "list_id": "5c60eb454506101c9d2f7b17",
  "name": "Newsletter sign-ups",
  "optimize_for": "highest_accuracy",
  "status": "success"
}
```

### Verify an email address

Check whether an email address is real and safe to send to. Returns Clearout's verdict (valid, invalid, catch_all or unknown) along with whether the address is disposable, free, a role address such as sales@, or gibberish, and a suggested correction when the address looks like a typo. Costs one Clearout credit, except when the verdict is unknown.

**Inputs**

- Email address (`email`, text, required): The address to check, for example jane@example.com.
- Wait up to (seconds) (`wait_seconds`, number): How long to give Clearout before it gives up and answers 'unknown'. Leave it as it is unless somebody is waiting on the result, in which case shorten it. From 5 to 180. Default: `60`.

**Outputs**

- `account` (text): The part of the address before the @.
- `blacklist_info` (list): Any blocklists the address or its domain is on.
- `bounce_type` (text): How a message would bounce -- 'hard' or 'soft' -- when it would.
- `disposable` (true/false): True for a throwaway address from a temporary-mail service.
- `domain` (text): The part of the address after the @.
- `email_address` (text): The address that was checked.
- `email_provider` (text): Who runs that mail server, e.g. 'google' or 'microsoft'.
- `free` (true/false): True for a free provider such as Gmail or Outlook.com, rather than a company's own domain.
- `gibberish` (true/false): True when the address looks machine-generated rather than chosen by somebody.
- `mx_record` (text): The mail server the domain receives mail on.
- `profile` (text): Public profile information Clearout holds, if any.
- `reason` (text): Why Clearout reached that verdict.
- `reason_code` (number): Clearout's code for that reason.
- `result` (text): Clearout's verdict: 'valid', 'invalid', 'catch_all' (the domain accepts everything, so the mailbox cannot be confirmed) or 'unknown'.
- `role` (true/false): True for an address that belongs to a role rather than a person, such as sales@ or support@.
- `safe_to_send` (text): Whether to send to it: 'yes', 'no' or 'risky'. This is the field to branch on.
- `score` (number): Clearout's confidence in the verdict.
- `status` (text): Status of the action execution ("success" on success).
- `suggested_email_address` (text): A likely fix for a typo (jane@gmal.com to jane@gmail.com), or empty when Clearout has no suggestion.
- `time_taken` (number): How long the check took, in milliseconds.
- `verified_on` (text): When it was checked (ISO-8601).

**Example output**

```json
{
  "account": "jane",
  "blacklist_info": [],
  "bounce_type": "",
  "disposable": false,
  "domain": "example.com",
  "email_address": "jane@example.com",
  "email_provider": "google",
  "free": false,
  "gibberish": false,
  "mx_record": "aspmx.l.google.com",
  "status": "success",
  "suggested_email_address": "",
  "time_taken": 432,
  "verified_on": "2026-09-18T12:42:53.000Z"
}
```
