### Convert a file

Convert a file to another format: for example a Word document to PDF, a PNG to JPG, or a video to MP4. The converted file is saved so later steps can email, upload, or store it.

**Inputs**

- File (`file`, text, required): The file to convert: upload one, pick a file from an earlier step, or paste a public file URL.
- Convert to (`output_format`, text, required): The format to convert into, for example 'pdf', 'docx', 'jpg' or 'mp4'.
- Input format (`input_format`, text): Optional. The format the file is already in. CloudConvert detects this on its own; set it only when the file has a missing or misleading extension.
- Save as (`filename`, text): Optional. The name to save the converted file under. Defaults to the original name with the new extension.

**Outputs**

- `content_type` (text): MIME type of the converted file
- `document_ref` (text): Reference to the converted file, for use by a later step
- `documents` (list): The converted file, in the shape steps that send or upload files expect
- `filename` (text): Name the converted file was saved under
- `job_id` (text): The CloudConvert job that did the conversion
- `output_format` (text): The format the file was converted into
- `size_bytes` (number): Size of the converted file in bytes
- `url` (text): Download URL for the converted file
