# DigMyName

> Find a domain name that is free and see what it really costs. DigMyName checks availability across more than 50 extensions and compares the first-year, renewal and three-year prices of six registrars: Cloudflare, GoDaddy, Namecheap, OVHcloud, Porkbun and Spaceship. ### Check domain availability

Find out whether one domain is free to register. An available domain comes back with its first-year price, what it renews at and the registrar offering it, plus a link to buy it. A taken one comes back with the year it was registered and whether it is listed for sale. When DigMyName can't be sure, the status is 'unknown' and says why, rather than guessing.

**Inputs**

- Domain (`domain`, text, required): The full domain, such as acme.com. A pasted web address works too: https://www.acme.com/about is checked as acme.com.

**Outputs**

- `available` (true/false): True only when the domain is confirmed free.
- `buy_url` (text): Where to register it: the registrar's own search when one is known, otherwise DigMyName's comparison page.
- `cheapest_registrar` (text): The registrar offering that first-year price.
- `compare_url` (text): DigMyName's page comparing this name across extensions and registrars.
- `domain` (text): The domain checked, such as acme.io.
- `extension` (text): Its extension without the dot, such as io.
- `first_year_price_usd` (number): What the first year costs at the cheapest registrar, in US dollars. Only for an available, non-premium domain.
- `for_sale` (true/false): Whether a taken domain is listed for sale by its owner.
- `listing_url` (text): Where it is listed for sale, when it is.
- `name` (text): The domain without its extension, such as acme.
- `possibly_premium` (true/false): Whether the name looks like one a registry would price at a premium (short or a common word), though that is not confirmed.
- `premium` (true/false): Whether the registry sells this name at its own premium price. No price is given then; follow the buy link.
- `registered_year` (number): The year a taken domain was first registered, where it is known.
- `renewal_price_usd` (number): What each year after the first costs at that registrar, in US dollars.
- `status` (text): 'available', 'taken' or 'unknown'. Unknown means DigMyName could not be sure either way; it is never reported as available.
- `status_note` (text): Why, in words, when there is more to say: why it is unknown, that it is for sale, premium or trademark-blocked. Empty otherwise.

### Compare registrar prices

Compare what each registrar DigMyName tracks (Cloudflare, GoDaddy, Namecheap, OVHcloud, Porkbun and Spaceship) charges for one extension: the first year, each renewal, a transfer and the total over three years, with any promotion code and whether domain privacy is included. Renewal is where a cheap first year often catches people out, so the cheapest for each is named separately.

**Inputs**

- Extension (`extension`, text, required): The extension to price, such as .com or .io. Pick from the list, or type one.
- Order (`sort`, text): Which price to rank the registrars by. One of: `first_year` (Cheapest first year), `renewal` (Cheapest renewal), `three_years` (Cheapest over three years), `transfer` (Cheapest transfer). Default: `first_year`.
- Only these registrars (`registrars`, list): Leave empty to compare every registrar, or pick the ones you would actually use.

**Outputs**

- `cheapest_first_year` (text): The registrar with the lowest first year.
- `cheapest_first_year_price_usd` (number): That price, in US dollars.
- `cheapest_renewal` (text): The registrar with the lowest renewal.
- `cheapest_renewal_price_usd` (number): That price, in US dollars.
- `cheapest_three_years` (text): The registrar that costs least over three years.
- `cheapest_three_years_cost_usd` (number): That cost, in US dollars.
- `compare_url` (text): DigMyName's page for this extension, with the date each price was last checked.
- `count` (number): How many registrars are in this result.
- `extension` (text): The extension priced, without the dot.
- `is_tracked` (true/false): Whether DigMyName tracks prices for this extension at all.
- `registrars` (list): The registrars, in the order asked for.
- `sort` (text): The order used: first_year, renewal, three_years or transfer.
- `tracked_count` (number): How many registrars DigMyName tracks for this extension in all.

### Get domain registration dates

Look up when registered domains were first registered and when they expire, for up to 50 at a time: useful for keeping an eye on your own renewals or on a name you hope will lapse. Each comes back with its age in years and the days left before it expires.

**Inputs**

- Domains (`domains`, list, required): Up to 50 full domains, such as acme.com. Add them one per row, or pass a list from an earlier step.

**Outputs**

- `count` (number): How many domains were looked up.
- `domains` (list): One row per domain asked about.
- `found_count` (number): How many had a registration record.
- `next_expiry_on` (text): When it runs out, as YYYY-MM-DD.
- `next_to_expire` (text): The domain whose registration runs out first.
- `not_found_count` (number): How many had none.
- `not_found_domains` (list): The domains with no record, ready to check for availability.

### Quick-check a list of domains

Screen up to 24 domains of any extensions in one fast pass, to weed out the taken ones before checking the rest properly. A domain reported taken is definitely taken; one reported 'likely available' still needs Check domain availability before you rely on it.

**Inputs**

- Domains (`domains`, list, required): Up to 24 full domains, such as acme.com and acme.io. Add them one per row, or pass a list from an earlier step.

- `count` (number): How many domains were checked.
- `domains` (list): One row per domain.
- `possibly_available_count` (number): How many may be free. Confirm them with Check domain availability.
- `possibly_available_domains` (list): The domains worth a full check.

- `unknown_count` (number): How many the quick pass could not call.

### Search a name across extensions

Check one name, such as acme, across up to 12 extensions at once (.com, .io, .ai and so on) to see which are free. Each available domain comes with its cheapest first-year price, renewal price and registrar, and the result lists the available and taken domains separately so the next step can use either.

**Inputs**

- Name (`name`, text, required): The name to look for, without an extension: acme, not acme.com. Letters, digits and hyphens; spaces are removed, so Acme Rockets searches acmerockets.
- Extensions (`extensions`, list): Which extensions to try, up to 12. Pick from the ones DigMyName tracks prices for, or type another, such as uk. Leave empty for .com, .io, .ai, .app, .dev, .co, .net, .org, .xyz, .me and .tech.
- Include prices (`include_prices`, true/false): Add the cheapest first-year and renewal price to each available domain. On by default; turn it off for a slightly faster answer when only availability matters. Default: `true`.
