### Search the database

Search Discogs' music database for releases, albums, artists or labels. Combine free text with filters such as artist, label, year, format, country, genre, catalogue number or barcode - a barcode alone identifies an exact pressing.

**Inputs**

- Search text (`query`, text): What to search for. Matches across titles, artists and labels. Leave blank to search by the filters alone.
- Search for (`search_type`, text): Which kind of thing to return. Leave blank to return all four kinds mixed together. One of: `release` (Release - one pressing, with its own catalogue number), `master` (Master release - an album, across all its pressings), `artist`, `label`.
- Artist name (`artist`, text): Only match records credited to this artist.
- Release title (`release_title`, text): Only match records with this title.
- Label name (`label`, text): Only match records issued by this label.
- Genre (`genre`, text): Only match this genre - Discogs' broad category, such as 'Rock', 'Electronic' or 'Jazz'.
- Style (`style`, text): Only match this style - the narrower classification under a genre, such as 'Grunge' or 'Deep House'.
- Country (`country`, text): Only match records issued in this country.
- Year (`year`, text): Only match records issued in this year.
- Format (`format`, text): Only match this format, such as 'Vinyl', 'CD', 'Cassette' or 'Album'.
- Catalogue number (`catalog_number`, text): Only match this catalogue number - the label's own reference, printed on the spine or label.
- Barcode (`barcode`, text): Only match this barcode. A barcode usually identifies one exact pressing, so this is the way to look up a record you are holding.
- Track title (`track`, text): Only match records containing a track with this title.
- Credit (`credit`, text): Only match records crediting this person anywhere - a producer, engineer or session player, not just the billed artist.
- Maximum results (`limit`, number): How many results to return at most. Pages are fetched behind the scenes until this many are collected. Defaults to 25. From 1 to 250. Default: `25`.

**Outputs**

- `results` (list): The matches, most relevant first
- `returned` (number): How many results this step returned
- `total_results` (number): How many matches Discogs found in total
