# FreeToGame

> Pull free-to-play games into a workflow from FreeToGame, the Free-To-Play Games Database: hundreds of free PC and browser games with their genre, studio, release date, description, screenshots and minimum system requirements. Search the catalogue by name or by what a game is - FreeToGame has no search of its own - combine tags to find exactly the kind of game you want, pick a free game of the day, find games like one you already have, and check what a machine needs to run one. No account or API key is required.

## Actions

### Find games by tags

Find the games carrying several tags at once - 3D and MMORPG and fantasy and PvP, say. This is FreeToGame's own multi-tag filter, and it is the only way to combine tags: the single category filter can express one at a time. Pick as many tags as you like; each one narrows the result further.

**Inputs**

- Tags (`tags`, list, required): Every tag a game has to carry. A game must match all of them, so a long list narrows quickly. One or more of: `mmorpg`, `shooter`, `strategy`, `moba`, `racing`, `sports`, `social`, `sandbox`, `open-world` (Open world), `survival`, and 35 more.
- Platform (`platform`, text): Only include games playable on this platform. Leave empty for all of them. A game's own platform, as an earlier step returned it, is accepted here too. One of: `pc` (PC (Windows)), `browser` (Web browser), `all` (Both PC and browser).
- Sort by (`sort_by`, text): How FreeToGame should order the games before they are paged: its own relevance ranking, most popular, newest, or by title. One of: `relevance` (Relevance (FreeToGame's own ranking)), `popularity` (Most popular first), `release-date` (Newest first), `alphabetical` (Title, A-Z).
- Number of results (`limit`, number): How many games to return, 1 to 500. Defaults to 25. From 1 to 500.
- Skip (`offset`, number): How many matches to skip before this page starts. Use the 'next_offset' from a previous run to walk through a long list. At least 0.

**Outputs**

- `attribution` (text)
- `attribution_html` (text)
- `attribution_url` (text)
- `games` (list)
- `has_more` (true/false)
- `limit` (number)
- `next_offset` (number)
- `offset` (number)
- `platform` (text)
- `result_count` (number)
- `sort_by` (text)
- `tag` (text): The tags as FreeToGame received them.
- `tags` (list)
- `total_matched` (number)

### Find similar games

Find the free games most like one you already have. FreeToGame has no recommendation endpoint, so likeness is worked out from what its catalogue holds: the same genre, the same publisher, the same developer and a shared platform. Every suggestion comes back with the reasons it was offered, so a person reading the result can see why.

**Inputs**

- Game (`game`, text, required): Which game: its title, its FreeToGame id, or a freetogame.com link from an earlier step. Part of a title is enough when it fits one game; a word that fits several is reported with the titles it fits.
- Platform (`platform`, text): Only include games playable on this platform. Leave empty for all of them. A game's own platform, as an earlier step returned it, is accepted here too. One of: `pc` (PC (Windows)), `browser` (Web browser), `all` (Both PC and browser).

### Get a game

Get everything FreeToGame holds on one game: its full description, genre, developer, publisher, release date, status, minimum system requirements and screenshots, plus the link that opens it. Name the game however you have it - a title, an id, or a link from an earlier step.

**Inputs**

- Game (`game`, text, required): Which game: its title, its FreeToGame id, or a freetogame.com link from an earlier step. Part of a title is enough when it fits one game; a word that fits several is reported with the titles it fits.

**Outputs**

### Get game screenshots

Get a game's screenshots as a plain list of image URLs, ready to attach to a post or an email. FreeToGame carries them only on the full record, wrapped one to an object, so this fetches the game and unwraps them - and returns the thumbnail too, which is the one image every game has.

**Inputs**

- Game (`game`, text, required): Which game: its title, its FreeToGame id, or a freetogame.com link from an earlier step. Part of a title is enough when it fits one game; a word that fits several is reported with the titles it fits.
- Number of screenshots (`limit`, number): How many screenshots to return at most. Defaults to all of them. From 1 to 500.

**Outputs**

- `attribution` (text)
- `attribution_html` (text)
- `attribution_url` (text)
- `game_id` (number)
- `game_title` (text)
- `profile_url` (text)
- `screenshot_count` (number)
- `screenshot_urls` (list)
- `thumbnail` (text)

  ],

}
```
### Get system requirements
Read a game's minimum system requirements - OS, processor, memory, graphics and storage - with the memory and storage also parsed into gigabytes, so a workflow can compare them to the machine it is checking instead of reading '8 GB RAM' as text. Browser games publish no requirements and say so.
**Inputs**
- Game (`game`, text, required): Which game: its title, its FreeToGame id, or a freetogame.com link from an earlier step. Part of a title is enough when it fits one game; a word that fits several is reported with the titles it fits.
**Outputs**
- `attribution` (text)
- `attribution_html` (text)
- `attribution_url` (text)
- `game_id` (number)
- `game_title` (text)
- `note` (text): Why there are no requirements, when there are none. Null when the game lists them.
- `platform` (text)
- `platform_slugs` (list)
- `profile_url` (text)
- `requirements` (object)
**Example output**
    "storage": "175 GB available space",
    "storage_gb": 175.0
  }
}
```

### List developers and publishers

See which studios give away the most games: every developer, or every publisher, with how many free-to-play titles each has and what they are. The two lists differ - who makes a game and who operates it are usually different companies - and FreeToGame has no aggregate endpoint of its own, so this counts the catalogue for you.

**Inputs**

- Count (`role`, text): Developers (who made the game) or publishers (who operate it). Defaults to developers. One of: `developer` (Developers (who made the game)), `publisher` (Publishers (who operate the game)).
- Platform (`platform`, text): Only include games playable on this platform. Leave empty for all of them. A game's own platform, as an earlier step returned it, is accepted here too. One of: `pc` (PC (Windows)), `browser` (Web browser), `all` (Both PC and browser).
- Category or tag (`category`, text): Only include games in this genre or carrying this tag. Leave empty for all of them. A game's display genre works here as well as the slug, so a genre read off an earlier step can be fed straight in. One of: `mmorpg`, `shooter`, `strategy`, `moba`, `racing`, `sports`, `social`, `sandbox`, `open-world` (Open world), `survival`, and 35 more.
- Number of studios (`limit`, number): How many studios to return, 1 to 500. Defaults to 25. From 1 to 500.

**Outputs**

- `attribution` (text)
- `attribution_html` (text)
- `attribution_url` (text)

### List game genres

See what the catalogue actually holds: every genre in it, how many free games each has, and the category value to pass back into a filter - which is not always the genre's own name. The tags the multi-tag filter accepts come back alongside, so this is the one place to look up anything you can filter by.

**Inputs**

- Platform (`platform`, text): Only include games playable on this platform. Leave empty for all of them. A game's own platform, as an earlier step returned it, is accepted here too. One of: `pc` (PC (Windows)), `browser` (Web browser), `all` (Both PC and browser).
- Order (`order`, text): Most games first, or by genre name. Defaults to most games first. One of: `count` (Most games first), `alphabetical` (Genre, A-Z).

**Outputs**

### List games

Browse the whole free-to-play catalogue, narrowed to one platform and one genre or tag, in FreeToGame's own relevance, popularity, release-date or alphabetical order. Sorting by release date is how you watch for new free games.

**Inputs**

### Pick a random game

Pick one free game at random and return it in full - a free game of the day for a newsletter, a channel post or a digest. Narrow the draw to a platform or a genre, and give a seed (today's date, for instance) to make the pick repeatable, so a scheduled workflow keeps naming the same game all day instead of a different one every run.

**Inputs**

### Search games

Find free-to-play games by name or by what they are. This is the action that turns what a person typed into a game the other actions can take, and it is the only way there is: FreeToGame has no search endpoint, so every word is matched against the catalogue here. Results are ranked, with an exact title first, and can be narrowed to one platform or genre.

**Inputs**

- Search words (`query`, text, required): What to search for. Every word has to appear somewhere in the game's title, genre, studio or description.
- Search descriptions too (`search_descriptions`, true/false): On by default: match the game's description as well as its title, genre and studio. Turn it off to search titles and studios only, which is what you want when a common word keeps dragging in games that merely mention it. Default: `true`.
- Number of results (`limit`, number): How many games to return, 1 to 500. Defaults to 25. From 1 to 500.

**Outputs**

- `attribution` (text)
- `attribution_html` (text)
- `attribution_url` (text)
- `category` (text)
- `games` (list)
- `has_more` (true/false)
- `limit` (number)
- `next_offset` (number)
- `offset` (number)
- `platform` (text)
- `query` (text)
- `result_count` (number)
- `search_descriptions` (true/false)
- `searched_count` (number): How many games were searched.
- `total_matched` (number)
