# Google News

> Read Google News: the front page, any of the eight sections, the news for a town or city, or a search across everything Google indexes, in any of its 80 country-and-language editions. Every article comes back as a headline, the publisher, when it was published and a link, so a workflow can summarise a morning brief, watch a company name, or post a topic to a channel. No account or API key is required.

## Actions

### Get local news

Get the latest headlines about one place: a town, city, region or country. Google works out which place you mean, so the result says which one it settled on: ask for 'Bay Area' and it reads 'San Francisco Bay Area'. A name it cannot place comes back as an error rather than as the country's news, which is what the feed does on its own.

**Inputs**

- Place (`place`, text, required): The town, city, region or country to read the news of. Add the state or country when the name is a common one; there are dozens of Springfields.
- Edition (`edition`, text): Which Google News edition to read. An edition is a country and a language together: it sets what the headlines are written in and which country's news they are chosen for. Defaults to the United States in English. One of: `AR:es-419` (Argentina), `AU:en` (Australia), `AT:de` (Austria), `BD:bn` (Bangladesh), `BE:nl` (Belgium (Dutch)), `BE:fr` (Belgium (French)), `BR:pt-419` (Brazil), `BG:bg` (Bulgaria), `CA:en` (Canada (English)), `CA:fr` (Canada (French)), and 69 more. Default: `US:en`.
- How many articles (`limit`, number): How many articles to return, from 1 to 200. Defaults to 10. Google decides how many a feed holds (around 40 for the front page, 70 for a section or a place, and about a hundred for a search) and every result says how many it found, so you can tell a short list from a low limit. From 1 to 200. Default: `10`.

**Outputs**

- `article_count` (number)
- `articles` (list)
- `available_count` (number)
- `edition` (text)
- `feed_title` (text)
- `feed_url` (text)
- `place` (text)
- `place_matched` (text)
- `updated_at` (text)

### Get section headlines

Get the latest headlines from one section of Google News: World, National, Business, Technology, Entertainment, Sports, Science or Health. National means whichever country the edition is for, so the same step reads US news on the United States edition and French news on the French one.

**Inputs**

- Section (`section`, text, required): Which section to read. Every edition publishes all eight. One of: `world`, `national`, `business`, `technology`, `entertainment`, `sports`, `science`, `health`.

### Get top stories

Get the stories on the front page of Google News right now, in the order Google ranks them. Each one carries its headline, the publisher, when it was published and a link, plus the other outlets covering the same story.

**Inputs**

### Search news

Search Google News for articles matching some words, optionally narrowed to a date range or to particular news sites. This searches the whole index rather than the ranked front page, and returns about a hundred articles: the step behind a daily brief on a subject, or a watch on a company name.

**Inputs**

- Search for (`query`, text, required): The words to search for. Put a phrase in quotes to match it exactly ("supply chain"), and put a minus in front of a word to leave it out (-opinion).
- Published after (`published_after`, date): Only articles published on or after this day. Leave empty for no earliest date. Google matches by day rather than to the minute.
- Published before (`published_before`, date): Only articles published on or before this day. Leave empty for no latest date.
- Only these sites (`sites`, list): Only articles from these news sites, separated by commas. A full link to one of a site's articles is fine; it is reduced to the site for you. Leave empty to search every publisher Google indexes.
