## Actions

### Count laureates

Count the laureates matching a filter without fetching them all: how many women have won the Physics prize, how many laureates were born in a country, how many motivations mention a subject. Returns the total and one example.

**Inputs**

- Gender (`gender`, text): Count laureates of one gender. Organizations have none, so setting this leaves them out. One of: `female`, `male`, `other`.
- Category (`category`, text): Count laureates of one prize category. One of: `che` (Chemistry), `eco` (Economic Sciences), `lit` (Literature), `pea` (Peace), `phy` (Physics), `med` (Physiology or Medicine).
- Prize year (`prize_year`, number): Count laureates awarded a prize in this year. With Prize end year set, this starts a range. At least 1901.
- Prize end year (`prize_year_to`, number): The last year of a prize-year range. Only narrows a range, so Prize year is required alongside it. At least 1901.
- Country of birth (`birth_country`, text): Count laureates born in this country, named as it was at the time.
- Continent of birth (`birth_continent`, text): Count laureates born on this continent. One of: `Africa`, `Asia`, `Europe`, `North America`, `Oceania`, `South America`, `Antarctica`.
- Motivation contains (`motivation`, text): Count laureates whose motivation contains this text.
- Language (`language`, text): Which language to return names, categories and motivations in. Defaults to English; a field the Nobel Foundation has not translated falls back to English. One of: `en` (English), `se` (Swedish), `no` (Norwegian).

**Outputs**

- `count` (number)
- `filters` (object)
- `sample_laureate` (text)

**Example output**

```json
{
  "count": 26,
  "filters": {
    "gender": "female",
    "nobelPrizeCategory": "phy"
  },
  "sample_laureate": "Marie Curie, n\u00e9e Sklodowska"
}
```

### Find laureates by name

Find the laureates whose name contains the search text. This is how a workflow turns a name into the numeric ID that Get a laureate takes.

**Inputs**

- Name (`name`, text, required): Text the laureate's name contains. Matches people and organizations.
- Number of results (`limit`, number): How many laureates to return (1-100). Defaults to 25. From 1 to 100.
- Skip (`offset`, number): How many matching records to skip before collecting results. Use it with Number of results to page through a large search. At least 0.
- Language (`language`, text): Which language to return names, categories and motivations in. Defaults to English; a field the Nobel Foundation has not translated falls back to English. One of: `en` (English), `se` (Swedish), `no` (Norwegian).

**Outputs**

- `has_more` (true/false)

### Get the prizes of a year

Get every Nobel Prize awarded in one year, across all six categories, in a single step. Categories that were not awarded that year are still returned, flagged as not awarded with the Nobel Foundation's explanation.

**Inputs**

- Year (`year`, number, required): The award year, as YYYY. The first Nobel Prizes were awarded in 1901; the Economic Sciences prize starts in 1969. At least 1901.
- Language (`language`, text): Which language to return names, categories and motivations in. Defaults to English; a field the Nobel Foundation has not translated falls back to English. One of: `en` (English), `se` (Swedish), `no` (Norwegian).

**Outputs**

- `awarded_categories` (list)
- `awarded_count` (number)
- `laureate_count` (number)
- `prize_count` (number)
- `prizes` (list)
- `year` (number)

### Search laureates

Search Nobel Prize laureates, people and organizations alike, by name, gender, motivation text, affiliation, residence, birth or death date, and the year and category of the prize. Every filter is optional and they combine, so "women awarded the Physics prize" is one call.

**Inputs**

- Name (`name`, text): Text the laureate's name contains. Organizations match on their name too.
- Gender (`gender`, text): Narrow to laureates of one gender. Organizations have none, so setting this leaves them out. One of: `female`, `male`, `other`.
- Motivation contains (`motivation`, text): Text the Nobel committee's motivation contains, such as 'DNA' or 'human rights'.
- Affiliation (`affiliation`, text): The institution the laureate belonged to when the prize was awarded, such as a university.
- Residence (`residence`, text): Where the laureate was living when the prize was awarded.
- Born (`birth_date`, text): A year (1867), a month across all years (-11-), a day of the month (-07), or a full date (1867-11-07).
- Born before (`birth_date_to`, text): The end of a birth-date range. Only narrows a range, so Born is required alongside it.
- Died (`death_date`, text): Same forms as Born: a year, a month, a day of the month, or a full date.
- Died before (`death_date_to`, text): The end of a death-date range. Only narrows a range, so Died is required alongside it.
- Prize year (`prize_year`, number): Narrow to laureates awarded a prize in this year. With Prize end year set, this starts a range. At least 1901.
- Prize end year (`prize_year_to`, number): The last year of a prize-year range. Only narrows a range, so Prize year is required alongside it. At least 1901.
- Category (`category`, text): Narrow to laureates of one prize category. One of: `che` (Chemistry), `eco` (Economic Sciences), `lit` (Literature), `pea` (Peace), `phy` (Physics), `med` (Physiology or Medicine).
- Order (`sort`, text): Sort alphabetically by the laureate's known name, ascending or descending. One of: `asc` (Oldest first), `desc` (Newest first).
