## Actions

### Check a first name's gender

Check whether a first name matches the gender you expect, to catch a wrong salutation before it goes out, or to clean up a contact list where someone was filed as Mr when they should be Ms. Answers yes or no, along with the likely gender and the right salutation. A name that could be either is never a match.

**Inputs**

- First name (`name`, text, required): The first name to look up, such as Andrea or Jean-Luc. Send the first name on its own where you can: a surname tells Vornamencheck nothing.
- Expected gender (`expected_gender`, text, required): The gender you have on record for this person, such as the one behind the salutation in your contact list. One of: `male`, `female`.
- Country (`country`, text): The country whose naming customs to go by. The same name can differ: Andrea is usually female in Germany and usually male in Italy. Germany if you leave it as it is. One of: `AF` (Afghanistan), `AX` (Åland Islands), `AL` (Albania), `DZ` (Algeria), `AS` (American Samoa), `AD` (Andorra), `AO` (Angola), `AI` (Anguilla), `AQ` (Antarctica), `AG` (Antigua & Barbuda), and 239 more. Default: `DE`.

**Outputs**

- `certainty_percent` (number): How likely the gender given is, from 50 (a coin toss) to 100 (certain).
- `country` (text): Two-letter code of the country the answer applies to.
- `country_name` (text): Name of the country the answer applies to.
- `expected_gender` (text): The gender you asked about.
- `female_percent` (number): How likely the name is female, out of 100.
- `gender` (text): male or female, whichever is more likely. unknown when both are equally likely, as with a surname or a word that is not a name.
- `german_salutation` (text): Herr or Frau, for a letter or email in German. Empty when unknown.
- `is_known` (true/false): True when the name leans one way. Put this in an If step before using the gender or the salutation.
- `male_percent` (number): How likely the name is male, out of 100.
- `matches` (true/false): True when the name is more likely the gender you expected. False when it is more likely the other one, or could be either.
- `name` (text): The first name, with capital letters where they belong.
- `note` (text): A remark from Vornamencheck about the name, if it has one.
- `salutation` (text): Mr or Ms, to address the person by. Empty when unknown.
