## Actions

### Get a learning resource

Read one Wikiversity page as plain text, along with its list of sections, so a later step can summarise it, translate it or turn it into a lesson plan. Narrow to one section to pull just the exercises or just the reading list. A hub page such as a School or a Portal is a shelf of links rather than prose, so it comes back with no text; List what a course contains is the action for those.

**Inputs**

- Resource title (`title`, text, required): The title of the Wikiversity page, for example 'Photosynthesis', 'Introduction to Computer Science' or 'School:Medicine'. Redirects are followed, so an old name still reaches the resource. Use Search learning resources to find one.
- Only this section (`section`, text): Only the text under this heading and its subsections, matched without regard to case. The 'sections' list this action returns is where the headings come from. Leave empty for the whole page.
- Wikiversity edition (`language`, text): Which language edition of Wikiversity to read. The list is fetched from Wikimedia, so it is the editions Wikiversity currently has. Leave empty for English. Default: `en`.

**Outputs**

- `language` (text)
- `last_edited` (text)
- `namespace` (number)
- `namespace_name` (text)
- `pageid` (number)
- `section` (text): The section filter that was applied, if any.
- `sections` (list): The page's headings, in the order they appear.
- `text` (text): The readable text, with no wiki markup. Empty for a hub page that is only links.
- `title` (text): The page's title after redirects.
- `url` (text)
- `word_count` (number)

**Example output**

```json
{
  "language": "en",
  "last_edited": "2026-08-13T07:18:03Z",
  "namespace": 0,
  "namespace_name": "Learning resource",
  "pageid": 103261,
    },
    {
      "heading": "Calvin Cycle",
      "level": 2,
}
```

### Get a resource in other languages

The same resource on the other Wikiversity editions, with the title it has in each. Each one reports its edition code, which is exactly what the Wikiversity edition field of every other action takes, so a workflow can follow one straight into reading the translated page.

**Inputs**

- Resource title (`title`, text, required): The title of the Wikiversity page, for example 'Photosynthesis', 'Introduction to Computer Science' or 'School:Medicine'. Redirects are followed, so an old name still reaches the resource. Use Search learning resources to find one.
- How many languages (`limit`, number): The most translations to return. Defaults to 50. From 1 to 500. Default: `50`.
- Wikiversity edition (`language`, text): Which language edition of Wikiversity to read. The list is fetched from Wikimedia, so it is the editions Wikiversity currently has. Leave empty for English. Default: `en`.

**Outputs**

- `count` (number)
- `language` (text): The edition this was read from.
- `pageid` (number)
- `title` (text)
- `translations` (list)
- `url` (text)

**Example output**

```json
{
  "count": 2,
  "language": "en",
  "pageid": 103261,
  "title": "Photosynthesis",
  "translations": [
    {
      "language": "fr",
      "language_in_its_own_words": "fran\u00e7ais",
      "url": "https://fr.wikiversity.org/wiki/Photosynth%C3%A8se"
    },
    {
      "language": "ko",
      "language_in_its_own_words": "\ud55c\uad6d\uc5b4",
      "language_name": "Korean",
    }
  ],
  "url": "https://en.wikiversity.org/wiki/Photosynthesis"
}
```

### Get a resource summary

What a resource is, in one line and one paragraph, with its lead picture. This is the card view: enough to put a resource in a digest, a Slack message or an email without reading the whole page first.

**Inputs**

- Resource title (`title`, text, required): The title of the Wikiversity page, for example 'Photosynthesis', 'Introduction to Computer Science' or 'School:Medicine'. Redirects are followed, so an old name still reaches the resource. Use Search learning resources to find one.
- Wikiversity edition (`language`, text): Which language edition of Wikiversity to read. The list is fetched from Wikimedia, so it is the editions Wikiversity currently has. Leave empty for English. Default: `en`.

**Outputs**

- `description` (text): A few words saying what the subject is.
- `image_url` (text): The lead picture at full size, if it has one.
- `language` (text)
- `last_edited` (text)
- `pageid` (number)
- `summary` (text): The resource's opening paragraph, as plain text.
- `thumbnail_url` (text): A small version of the lead picture, if it has one.
- `title` (text)
- `url` (text)

**Example output**

```json
{
  "description": "biological process to convert light into chemical energy",
  "image_url": "https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/6/66/Lampyridae_%2815601446146%29.jpg",
  "language": "en",
  "last_edited": "2026-06-03T20:12:37Z",
  "pageid": 103261,
  "summary": "Photosynthesis is the process by which plants and certain other organisms obtain and convert solar energy into chemical energy.",
}
```

### Get a resource's edit history

Who changed one resource, when, and what they said they were doing. Use it to tell whether a course is still maintained, to credit the people who wrote it, or to watch a single page a workflow depends on. Narrow to a window with the two date fields.

**Inputs**

- Resource title (`title`, text, required): The title of the Wikiversity page, for example 'Photosynthesis', 'Introduction to Computer Science' or 'School:Medicine'. Redirects are followed, so an old name still reaches the resource. Use Search learning resources to find one.
- Newest to include (`start`, date and time): Only changes at or before this moment. Leave empty to start from now.
- Oldest to include (`end`, date and time): Only changes at or after this moment. Leave empty for no lower bound.
- Order (`direction`, text): Which end of the window to start from. Defaults to newest first. One of: `older` (Newest first), `newer` (Oldest first). Default: `older`.
- How many edits (`limit`, number): The most edits to return. Defaults to 20. From 1 to 50. Default: `20`.
- Continue from (`continue_from`, text): Pick up where a previous run stopped: pass the 'next_page_token' that run returned. Leave empty to start at the beginning.
- Wikiversity edition (`language`, text): Which language edition of Wikiversity to read. The list is fetched from Wikimedia, so it is the editions Wikiversity currently has. Leave empty for English. Default: `en`.

**Outputs**

- `count` (number)
- `direction` (text)
- `language` (text)
- `next_page_token` (text): Pass back as 'continue_from' for the next page; empty at the start of the page's history.
- `pageid` (number)
- `revisions` (list)
- `title` (text)
- `url` (text)

**Example output**

### List recent changes

What has been edited across a whole Wikiversity edition lately, newest first. Run it on a schedule to post the new learning resources of the week, or filter it down to one part of the wiki to watch a faculty. Wikiversity keeps about thirty days of this feed, so a window reaching further back stops where the feed does.

**Inputs**

- Limit to these parts of the wiki (`namespaces`, list): Only results in these parts of the wiki. Leave empty for the learning material: resources, schools, portals, topics and collections, which keeps the project's own admin and discussion pages out of the way. One or more of: `0` (Learning resource - the course and lesson pages), `100` (School - a faculty, such as the School of Medicine), `102` (Portal - a subject gateway), `104` (Topic - a subject hub, such as Topic:Calculus), `106` (Collection - a reading list of resources), `2` (User - personal learning projects and drafts), `118` (Draft - work not yet published), `14` (Category), `4` (Wikiversity - the project's own pages), `10` (Template), and 3 more.
- Kinds of change (`change_types`, list): Which kinds of change to include. Leave empty for every kind. One or more of: `edit` (Edits to existing resources), `new` (Newly created resources), `log` (Log entries such as deletions, moves and uploads), `categorize` (Resources added to or removed from a category).
- Leave out (`filters`, list): Narrow the feed further. Leave empty to include everything. One or more of: `!minor` (Skip minor edits), `minor` (Only minor edits), `!bot` (Skip bot edits), `bot` (Only bot edits), `!anon` (Skip edits by signed-out people), `anon` (Only edits by signed-out people), `!redirect` (Skip redirects), `redirect` (Only redirects).
- How many changes (`limit`, number): The most changes to return. Defaults to 50. From 1 to 500. Default: `50`.

**Outputs**

- `changes` (list)
- `count` (number)
- `direction` (text)
- `language` (text)
- `next_page_token` (text): Pass back as 'continue_from' for the next page; empty at the end of the window.

### List the categories a resource is in

Where one resource is filed, which is how you find the material next to it: read a lesson's categories, then list the resources in one of them to get everything else on that subject. Maintenance categories that readers never see are included by default and can be filtered out.

**Inputs**

- Resource title (`title`, text, required): The title of the Wikiversity page, for example 'Photosynthesis', 'Introduction to Computer Science' or 'School:Medicine'. Redirects are followed, so an old name still reaches the resource. Use Search learning resources to find one.
- Which categories (`visibility`, text): Whether to include the wiki's hidden maintenance categories, which say how a page is being looked after rather than what it is about. Defaults to the ones readers see. One of: `visible` (The ones readers see), `all` (Every category, maintenance ones included), `hidden` (Only the hidden maintenance ones). Default: `visible`.
- How many categories (`limit`, number): The most categories to return.

**Outputs**

- `categories` (list)
- `count` (number)
- `language` (text)
- `pageid` (number)
- `title` (text)
- `url` (text)
- `visibility` (text)

### List the resources in a category

Everything filed under one subject category, which is how Wikiversity groups material across courses: every resource in Category:Physics, or everything added to a category since a date. The result also says how many the category holds altogether, so a workflow knows whether it has seen all of it. Type the name with or without the 'Category:' prefix.

**Inputs**

- Category (`category`, text, required): The category to list, with or without the 'Category:' prefix. Use List the categories a resource is in to find one.
- What to include (`member_types`, list): Which kinds of page to return. Leave empty for resources and subcategories. One or more of: `page` (Resources), `subcat` (Subcategories), `file` (Files).
- Sort by (`sort`, text): How to order the list. Defaults to alphabetically. One of: `sortkey` (Alphabetically), `timestamp` (By when each was added to the category). Default: `sortkey`.
- Order (`order`, text): Which way round to sort. Defaults to A to Z, or oldest first when sorting by date. One of: `ascending` (A to Z, or oldest first), `descending` (Z to A, or newest first). Default: `ascending`.
- How many resources (`limit`, number): The most resources to return. Defaults to 50. From 1 to 500. Default: `50`.

**Outputs**

- `category` (text)
- `count` (number): How many this run returned.
- `language` (text)
- `next_page_token` (text): Pass back as 'continue_from' for the next page; empty at the end of the category.
- `order` (text)
- `resources` (list)
- `sort` (text)
- `total_files` (number)
- `total_in_category` (number): How many the category holds altogether.

### List what a course contains

The syllabus: every lesson, unit and further resource a course, school, portal or topic holds, in the order the page itself puts them in. Wikiversity builds a course two ways, as pages filed beneath it and as a page of links to resources elsewhere, and this reads both, so a course comes back whole whichever way it was built. Each part says whether it has been written yet, so the gaps in a course are visible too.

**Inputs**

- Resource title (`title`, text, required): The title of the Wikiversity page, for example 'Photosynthesis', 'Introduction to Computer Science' or 'School:Medicine'. Redirects are followed, so an old name still reaches the resource. Use Search learning resources to find one.
- What to include (`scope`, text): Which parts to return. Defaults to everything it contains. One of: `all` (Everything it contains), `linked` (Only the resources it links to), `subpages` (Only the pages filed beneath it). Default: `all`.
- How many parts (`limit`, number): The most parts to return. Defaults to 100. From 1 to 500. Default: `100`.
- Wikiversity edition (`language`, text): Which language edition of Wikiversity to read. The list is fetched from Wikimedia, so it is the editions Wikiversity currently has. Leave empty for English. Default: `en`.

**Outputs**

- `count` (number)
- `language` (text)
- `linked_count` (number): How many are resources it links to.
- `parts` (list)
- `scope` (text)
- `subpage_count` (number): How many parts are filed beneath the course.
- `title` (text): The course's title after redirects.
- `url` (text)

### List what links to a resource

Which resources point at this one. A lesson rarely names the course it belongs to, but the course links to the lesson, so this is the way back up from a page to the material built on it, and the way to see how widely a resource is used before changing it. Pages that link to it under an older name are included, and each says which name it used.

**Inputs**

- Resource title (`title`, text, required): The title of the Wikiversity page, for example 'Photosynthesis', 'Introduction to Computer Science' or 'School:Medicine'. Redirects are followed, so an old name still reaches the resource. Use Search learning resources to find one.
- Include redirects (`redirects`, text): Whether to include pages that are only other names for a resource. Defaults to both. One of: `all` (Resources and redirects), `nonredirects` (Resources only), `redirects` (Redirects only). Default: `all`.
- How many resources (`limit`, number): The most resources to return. Defaults to 50. From 1 to 500. Default: `50`.

- `language` (text)
- `next_page_token` (text): Pass back as 'continue_from' for the next page; empty at the end of the list.
- `redirects` (text)
- `resources` (list)
- `title` (text)
- `url` (text)

**Example output**

### Search learning resources

Search the full text of one Wikiversity edition and get back the courses, lessons and other resources that match, each with the sentence the phrase was found in. Searches the learning material by default, so the project's own admin pages stay out of the way. This is the way in: every other action takes a title, and this is where a title comes from.

**Inputs**

- What to look for (`query`, text, required): The words to search for. Put a phrase in double quotes to keep the words together, and prefix a word with a minus sign to exclude it.
- Order (`sort`, text): How to order the results. Defaults to best match first. One of: `relevance` (Best match first), `last_edit_desc` (Most recently updated first), `last_edit_asc` (Least recently updated first), `create_timestamp_desc` (Newest resources first), `create_timestamp_asc` (Oldest resources first), `incoming_links_desc` (Most linked-to first), `incoming_links_asc` (Least linked-to first), `title_natural_asc` (Title, A to Z), `title_natural_desc` (Title, Z to A), `just_match` (Fastest, in no particular order), `random` (Shuffled). Default: `relevance`.
- How many results (`limit`, number): The most results to return. Defaults to 10. From 1 to 50. Default: `10`.

**Outputs**

- `count` (number): How many results this run returned.
- `language` (text)
- `next_page_token` (text): Pass back as 'continue_from' for the next page; empty at the end of the results.
- `query` (text)
- `results` (list)
- `sort` (text)
- `total_matches` (number): How many resources match in total.
