## Actions

### Compare countries

Put two to fifty countries side by side on one indicator and rank them, in a single step. Leaving the year empty gives each country its own most recent value, which can be a different year for each; every row carries its own period, and countries with no value are listed as missing.

**Inputs**

- Indicator (`indicator`, text, required): What to measure. Pick a World Development Indicator from the list, or type any World Bank indicator code such as NY.GDP.MKTP.CD, including one found with 'Find indicators'.
- Countries (`countries`, list, required): Which countries to compare, two to fifty. A value from an earlier step can be a list of names or codes, or one comma-separated line.
- Year (`year`, number): Use each country's value for this year. Leave empty to use each country's most recent value, which can be a different year for each. From 1800 to 2100.
- Order (`order`, text): Highest first by default. Lowest first suits an indicator where small is good, such as infant mortality. One of: `highest_first` (Highest first), `lowest_first` (Lowest first). Default: `highest_first`.
- Database (`source`, text): Which World Bank database to read. Leave empty for the World Development Indicators, or the indicator's own database when it is not one of them.

**Outputs**

- `as_of` (text): The year compared, or latest available.
- `count` (number): How many countries had a value.
- `countries` (list): The countries in rank order.
- `indicator` (text): The indicator's name.
- `indicator_code` (text): The indicator's code.
- `last_updated` (text): When that database was last updated (YYYY-MM-DD).
- `leader` (text): The country ranked first.
- `leader_value` (number): Its value.
- `missing` (list): The countries with no value to compare.
- `order` (text): highest_first or lowest_first.
- `source` (text): The name of that database.
- `source_id` (text): The id of the database the figures came from.

### Find indicators

Look indicators up by name, code or definition, such as gdp per capita or school enrollment, to find the code the other actions take. Searches the World Development Indicators unless you pick another database or every database; the best matches come first.

**Inputs**

- Search for (`query`, text, required): A few words, or an indicator code.
- Database (`source`, text): Where to search. Leave empty for the World Development Indicators. Every database covers some 28,500 indicators and takes a few seconds; it leaves out the WDI Database Archives, whose data can no longer be read, unless you pick them on their own.
- How many (`limit`, number): The most matches to return. Defaults to 20. From 1 to 100. Default: `20`.

**Outputs**

- `count` (number): How many are returned.
- `indicators` (list): The best matches first.
- `query` (text): The words searched for.
- `source_id` (text): The database searched, or null for every database.
- `total_matches` (number): How many indicators matched in all.

**Example output**

```json
{
  "count": 1,
  "indicators": [
    {
### Get a country profile
Get several headline figures for one country at once: population, GDP, GDP per capita, growth, inflation, unemployment, life expectancy and poverty unless you choose others. - Figures (`indicators`, list): Which World Development Indicators to include, up to twenty. Eight headline ones by default.
