Blockstream Esplora
App · Cryptocurrency · 15 actions
Read the Bitcoin blockchain from a workflow, through Blockstream's public Esplora API. Check whether an address has been paid and how deeply the payment is confirmed, list its transactions and the coins it holds, look up any transaction or block, see what fees the network is asking right now, and broadcast a transaction your wallet has already signed. Amounts come back in satoshis and BTC, block times as dates, and confirmations already counted - so a workflow reads a balance rather than four running totals. Works on Bitcoin, testnet and signet. No account or API key required.
Actions
| Action | What it does |
|---|---|
| Broadcast a signed transaction | Send a transaction your wallet has already signed to the Bitcoin network, and get its transaction ID back. |
| Check for a payment | Has this address been paid, and is the payment safe to act on yet? |
| Check how busy the network is | How many transactions are waiting to be confirmed, how many blocks' worth that is, and the range of fees they are paying. |
| Check if a transaction is confirmed | Whether a transaction has made it into a block yet, and how many confirmations deep it is. |
| Check if a transaction's outputs are spent | Whether the money a transaction paid out is still sitting there, output by output, and which transaction moved each one on. |
| Get a block | One block: when it was mined, how much is in it, and how deep in the chain it now sits. |
| Get a transaction | One transaction in full: who it paid and how much, what it spent to do it, the fee and fee rate, and how many confirmations deep it is. |
| Get a transaction's raw data | A transaction exactly as it sits on the chain, in hex. |
| Get an address's balance | What a Bitcoin address holds right now, what it has ever received and sent, and what is still on its way. |
| Get current fees | What to pay right now to confirm in the next block, within half an hour, within an hour, or within a day - in satoshis per virtual byte, which is how Bitcoin fees are quoted. |
| List a block's transactions | Everything a block confirmed, in the order it was mined, with each transaction's fee and size. |
| List an address's coins | The individual coins an address is holding - its unspent outputs - newest first, with what each is worth and how deeply confirmed it is, plus their total. |
| List an address's transactions | An address's history, newest first, with how much each transaction paid it and how much it spent. |
| List recent blocks | The most recently mined blocks, newest first, with when each was mined and what is in it. |
| List transactions just broadcast | The last transactions the network saw, before any of them are in a block, with what each is paying in fees. |
Broadcast a signed transaction
Send a transaction your wallet has already signed to the Bitcoin network, and get its transaction ID back. This is the one step here that changes anything, and it cannot be undone once the network has it. Nothing is signed for you and no key is ever held - if the transaction is not already signed, the network rejects it. No API key required.
Inputs
- Signed transaction (hex)
transaction_hextextRequired - The signed transaction, in hex - what a wallet calls 'raw transaction' or 'export'. Only the characters 0-9 and a-f.
- Network
networktext - Optional. Which Bitcoin network to read. Bitcoin unless you change it. Testnet and signet are the practice networks, where coins are worth nothing - use one to rehearse a workflow, then switch back. One of:
mainnet(Bitcoin),testnet(Testnet (test coins, not real money)),signet(Signet (test coins, not real money)). Default:mainnet.
Outputs
broadcasttrue/false- Always true - a rejected transaction fails the step with the network's own reason instead.
explorer_urltext- The blockstream.info page for this record, on the same network it came from. Safe to put straight into a message or a ticket.
networktext- Which network this came from: mainnet, testnet or signet.
size_bytesnumber- How large the transaction was, in bytes.
txidtext- The transaction's ID, now that the network has it. Use it with Check if a transaction is confirmed.

}Check for a payment
Has this address been paid, and is the payment safe to act on yet? Answers with a true or false a branch step can read, plus how much arrived and how deeply confirmed it is. Money still in the mempool is reported separately and never counted, because an unconfirmed payment can still be replaced. The step to put in front of 'send the goods'. No API key required.
Inputs
- Bitcoin address
addresstextRequired - The address to look at. Any format works - a bc1... SegWit or Taproot address, or a 1.../3... legacy one. It must belong to the network chosen below.
- Amount expected (BTC)
expected_amount_btcnumber - Optional. How much this address is meant to have received, in BTC. Leave blank to treat any payment at all as paid.
- Confirmations needed
minimum_confirmationsnumber - Optional. How deeply a payment must be buried before it counts. 1 means it is in a block; 6 is the convention for amounts worth arguing about; 0 counts money that is still pending, which is not safe to ship goods on.From 0 to 100. Default:
1. - Network
networktext - Optional.
Outputs
addresstext- The address that was checked.
checked_more_than_showntrue/false- True when the address has more history than the 100 transactions this looked at - which happens on a reused address, not on an invoice address used once. Total received is exact either way.
expected_btcnumber- The amount expected, in BTC.
expected_satsnumber- The amount expected, in satoshis. Null if none was set.
explorer_urltext- The blockstream.info page for this record, on the same network it came from. Safe to put straight into a message or a ticket.
minimum_confirmationsnumber- The confirmation bar that was applied.
networktext- Which network this came from: mainnet, testnet or signet.
paidtrue/false- Whether enough confirmed money has arrived. True when the amount expected has been received with at least the confirmations asked for - or, with no amount set, when anything has. This is the field to branch on.
payment_countnumber- How many separate payments were found.
paymentslist- Every payment into the address, newest first, with whether each one counted.
pending_btcnumber- The same, in BTC.
pending_satsnumber- How much has arrived but not confirmed, in satoshis. Not counted towards paid - it can still be replaced.
received_btcnumber- The same, in BTC.
received_satsnumber- How much has arrived and cleared the confirmation bar, in satoshis.
shortfall_btcnumber- The same, in BTC.
shortfall_satsnumber- How much is still missing, in satoshis. 0 once paid, and 0 when no amount was expected.
total_received_btcnumber- The same, in BTC.
total_received_satsnumber- Everything the address has ever been paid, in satoshis, straight from the chain's own totals.

Outputs
average_fee_rate_sats_per_vbytenumber- What the queue is paying on average, per virtual byte.
backlog_blocksnumber- How many blocks it would take to clear the queue. Under 1 means the next block takes everything; 10 means roughly a hundred minutes of backlog.

Outputs
block_hashtext- The hash of that block, or null if pending.

confirmationsnumber- How many blocks deep it is, counting its own. 0 while pending, 1 the moment it is mined, and about one more every ten minutes. Six is the usual bar for a large amount.
