Read COVID-19 statistics from disease.sh, the open-source API that gathers them from Worldometers, Johns Hopkins University, The New York Times, Our World in Data, the ECDC and Apple: the final totals for the world, every country, continent and US state; how cases and deaths rose day by day in a country, province, state or county; vaccine doses given; which variants were circulating in Europe; and how much people moved about. Every source has now stopped publishing, so each answer names its source and its last day. No account or API key required.

Each period carries its new cases and deaths as well as the running totals, and the answer names the worst one. Recoveries are included until Johns Hopkins stopped counting them in August 2021.

Inputs

Countrycountrytext
The country to read, by name ('Italy'), two-letter code ('IT') or three-letter code ('ITA'). Leave empty for the whole world.

Inputs

Statestatetext
The state to read, by name ('Texas') or postal code ('TX'). Leave empty for the whole United States.
Countycountytext
Narrow to one county of the state. 'Los Angeles' and 'Los Angeles County' both work. Inputs

The country to read, by name ('Italy'), two-letter code ('IT') or three-letter code ('ITA'). Leave this and 'US state' empty for the whole world.

Data sourcesourcetext

Defaults to TESSy, with GISAID for any week a country did not report to TESSy.One of: preferred (TESSy where the country reported to it, otherwise GISAID), tessy (TESSy - the ECDC's own surveillance system), gisaid (GISAID - the shared sequence database). Rank countries

Rank countries by one of their final COVID-19 figures - total cases or deaths, cases or deaths per million people, deaths per 100 recorded cases, tests or population - highest or lowest first. Narrow it to one continent, or leave out small countries so a few micro-states do not lead every per-person ranking. A country that never reported the chosen figure is counted and left out, not ranked as zero. Figures are as they stood on 13 April 2024, when Worldometers stopped updating.

Inputs

Rank byrank_bytext
The figure to rank countries by. The per-person figures are the fair comparison between countries of different sizes. Defaults to total cases. One of: cases (Total cases), deaths (Total deaths), casesPerMillion (Cases per million people), deathsPerMillion (Deaths per million people), caseFatalityRate (Deaths per 100 recorded cases), tests (Tests carried out), testsPerMillion (Tests per million people), population. Default: cases.
Orderordertext
Whether the highest or the lowest figures come first. One of: highest (Highest first), lowest (Lowest first). Default: highest.
Continentcontinenttext
Rank only the countries on one continent. Leave empty for all.One of: africa, asia, australia_oceania (Australia and Oceania), europe, north_america (North America), south_america (South America).
Smallest populationminimum_populationnumber
Leave out countries with fewer people than this. Rankings per person are otherwise led by places such as San Marino and the Faroe Islands, where a handful of cases is a large share of a small population. One million is a good starting point. From 0 to 2000000000.
How manylimitnumber
Most countries to return, from the top. Defaults to 20.From 1 to 250. Default: 20.
