App · Compliance & Security · 10 actions

Look up any company in the world in the official LEI register run by GLEIF, the Global Legal Entity Identifier Foundation. Search by name to find a company's registered legal name, its official address, the public register it is filed in and the number it is filed under, then follow the ownership up to its parent or down through its subsidiaries. Check whether an LEI is real and still current before trusting it, resolve a BIC, an ISIN or a market code back to the company behind it, list the securities a company has issued, and see what has changed about a record and when. Over two and a half million entities across two hundred countries, published as open data under CC0. No account, no API key, no sign-up.

Actions

ActionWhat it does
Check an LEIAnswer in one step whether an LEI can be relied on today: whether it is a real code at all, who holds it, whether the registration is up to date, and how long until it has to be renewed.
Find a companySearch the world's register of legal entities by name, and narrow by country, by whether the company is still trading, or by what kind of thing it is.
Find a company by another codeStart from a code that is not an LEI and find the company behind it.
Get a company's detailsRead everything the register holds about one company: its legal name and any trading names, its registered and head office addresses, the register it is filed in and the number it is filed under, its legal form, when it was founded, and who issued its LEI.
Get a company's ownerFind out who owns a company, and since when.
List a company's securitiesList the ISINs issued against a company's LEI, which is to say the bonds, notes and other instruments the market can trade under its name.
List a company's subsidiariesList the companies a company owns, either the ones one step below it or every company beneath it however deep the tree goes.
List LEI issuersList every organisation accredited to issue an LEI, with the website each one takes applications and renewals through.
List what changed about a companySee what has changed about a company and when, newest first: a new legal name, a moved head office, a renewed registration, a change of owner.
Suggest company namesTurn a partial or half remembered company name into the real ones, each with its LEI where only one company answers to it.

Check an LEI

Answer in one step whether an LEI can be relied on today: whether it is a real code at all, who holds it, whether the registration is up to date, and how long until it has to be renewed. A mistyped code is caught before a request is even sent, because the last two characters of an LEI are a checksum over the other eighteen, so a transposed pair is reported as the typo it is rather than as a company that does not exist.

Inputs

LEIleitextRequired
The code to check. Anything can be passed in: this is the action that says whether it is an LEI at all.

Outputs

Find a company

Search the world's register of legal entities by name, and narrow by country, by whether the company is still trading, or by what kind of thing it is. Every result carries the company's official legal name, its registered address and its LEI, the code the other actions here work from. Paste an LEI into the name box instead and it is looked up directly, because no company name is shaped like one.

Inputs

Company namenametext
The company to look for. Matches registered legal names and trading names alike, so a partial name works, and an LEI pasted here is looked up as an LEI. Leave it empty only if you are narrowing by country, status or type instead: the register is far too large to list whole.
Countriescountrieslist
Only companies registered in these countries. Leave empty for anywhere in the world. One or more of: AF (Afghanistan), AL (Albania), DZ (Algeria), AS (American Samoa), AD (Andorra), AO (Angola), AI (Anguilla), AQ (Antarctica), AG (Antigua and Barbuda), AR (Argentina), and 240 more.
Company statusstatuslist
Whether the company itself is still trading. Leave empty for all of them. One or more of: ACTIVE, INACTIVE, NULL (Not stated).
LEI statusregistration_statuslist
What has happened to the LEI registration, which is a different question from whether the company trades. A live company whose LEI nobody renewed reads Active and Lapsed at once. Leave empty for all of them. One or more of: ISSUED, LAPSED, MERGED, RETIRED, ANNULLED, PENDING_TRANSFER (Pending transfer), PENDING_ARCHIVAL (Pending archival), DUPLICATE.
Typecompany_typelist
What kind of entity to return. Funds and branches hold LEIs of their own, so a search for a bank turns up its branches too unless this narrows it.One or more of: GENERAL (Company), FUND, BRANCH, SOLE_PROPRIETOR (Sole proprietor), RESIDENT_GOVERNMENT_ENTITY (Government entity), INTERNATIONAL_ORGANIZATION (International organization).
Pagepagenumber
Which page of results to read. Every answer says whether there are more, so a loop can ask for the next one. From 1 to 1000. Default: 1.
Results per pagesizenumber
How many results to return at once. GLEIF allows up to 200.From 1 to 200. Default: 25.

Find a company by another code

Start from a code that is not an LEI and find the company behind it. A BIC off a payment instruction, an ISIN off a holding, the MIC of an exchange, an OpenCorporates identifier or an S&P Global one all resolve to the same register, which is how a reference in one system is tied to a company in another.

Get a company's owner

Find out who owns a company, and since when. Ask for the immediate owner to go one step up the chain, or the ultimate owner to jump to the top of it. The answer carries the owner's full record alongside how the ownership was reported and whether anybody checked it against a public register, which is the part a compliance review actually turns on. A company with no owner on file says so plainly rather than erroring.

Inputs

LEIleitextRequired
The company's LEI: the twenty character code that identifies it worldwide. 'Find a company' returns one for every result, so a step before this one can supply it.
Which ownerleveltext
The immediate owner is the company one step up, the one that consolidates this company's accounts. The ultimate owner is the top of the whole chain, which for a subsidiary of a subsidiary is often a very different company. One of: direct (Immediate owner), ultimate (Ultimate owner). Default: direct.

List a company's securities

List the ISINs issued against a company's LEI, which is to say the bonds, notes and other instruments the market can trade under its name. Useful for tying a holding in a portfolio back to the legal entity that actually issued it. A company that has issued nothing returns an empty list rather than an error.

List a company's subsidiaries

List the companies a company owns, either the ones one step below it or every company beneath it however deep the tree goes. Each comes back as a full record with its own LEI, so a group can be walked, counted by country, or checked for lapsed registrations in a single run. A company that owns nothing on file returns an empty list rather than an error.

Inputs

List what changed about a company

See what has changed about a company and when, newest first: a new legal name, a moved head office, a renewed registration, a change of owner. Each entry says what the value was and what it became. GLEIF names the field as a path into its XML schema, which is unreadable, so each one is translated into the part of the record it belongs to and the field in plain words. Set a date to see only what changed since then.

Inputs

LEIleitextRequired
The company's LEI: the twenty character code that identifies it worldwide. 'Find a company' returns one for every result, so a step before this one can supply it.
Changed sincesincedate
Only changes on or after this day. Leave empty for the whole history.

Outputs

changeslist
leitext
The company that was asked about
paginationobject
Where in the results this answer sits
register_publishedtext
When GLEIF last published the register this was read from
sincetext
The cut-off applied, if any
Example output

Suggest company names

Turn a partial or half remembered company name into the real ones, each with its LEI where only one company answers to it. Use it to clean up a name typed into a form or pulled off an invoice before looking the company up properly. A name shared by several companies comes back without an LEI and says so.

Inputs

What was typednametextRequired
The start of a company name, or as much of it as is known. Three or four characters is enough.

Outputs

countnumber
How many suggestions came back
