Lorem Picsum
App · Images & Design · 5 actions
Real photographs to stand in for the ones you do not have yet. Ask Lorem Picsum for a size and it hands back a photo from Unsplash at that size: the placeholder for a mock-up, a demo email, a seeded test database or a design draft. Take one at random, take the same one every time for a given customer or product, build a whole catalogue of them in one step, or browse the library and keep the ids you like. Any size up to 5000 pixels, in colour or black and white, sharp or blurred, as a link or as a file to attach. No account or API key required.
Actions
| Action | What it does |
|---|---|
| Browse photos | Browse the photo catalogue a page at a time: each photo's id, who took it, how big the original is, and a link to it at the size you ask for. |
| Get a photo for a name | Give this a name (a customer, a product, a row id) and get the photo that belongs to it. |
| Get a random photo | Get a real photograph at any size, picked at random: the placeholder to reach for when a mock-up, a demo email or a test record needs a picture and it does not matter which. |
| Get a specific photo | Fetch one particular photo from the catalogue by its id, at whatever size you need. |
| Get photos for a list of names | Give this a list of names and get one photo for each, in the order they were given: a whole product catalogue, every customer in a demo account, the rows of a spreadsheet. |
Browse photos
Browse the photo catalogue a page at a time: each photo's id, who took it, how big the original is, and a link to it at the size you ask for. Use it to fill a mock gallery in one step, or to find a photo whose id you want to keep. No account or API key required.

}Get a photo for a name
Give this a name (a customer, a product, a row id) and get the photo that belongs to it. The same name always gives the same photo, so a seeded database or a demo account looks the same on every run and nobody's picture has to be stored anywhere. No account or API key required.
Inputs
- Name
nametextRequired - Any text: a customer's name, a product code, a row id. The same text always gives the same photo and different text gives a different one, so every record keeps its own picture without you storing anything. Upper and lower case count as different text.
- Width
widthnumber - How wide the photo should be, in pixels. 600 by default; anything up to 5000.From 1 to 5000. Default:
600. - Height
heightnumber - How tall the photo should be, in pixels. 400 by default; anything up to 5000. Clear it and you get a square photo, as wide and as tall as the width above. From 1 to 5000. Default:
400. - Black and white
black_and_whitetrue/false - Turn this on for a black-and-white photo instead of colour.Default:
false. - Blur
blurnumber - Optional. Blur the photo, from 1 (a light haze) to 10 (heavily blurred). Leave it empty for a sharp photo. A blurred photo makes a good background for text that has to stay readable. From 1 to 10.
- File type
file_typetext - JPEG by default, which every email client and browser can show. Choose WebP for a file about half the size, where you know what will be opening it.One of:
jpg(JPEG (opens anywhere)),webp(WebP (about half the size)). Default:jpg. - Also save the photo as a file
save_as_filetrue/false - Off by default, because a link is all an email or a web page needs. Turn it on when a later step needs the file itself -- attaching it to an email, uploading it to storage, or posting it into a chat.Default:
false.
Outputs
authortext- The photographer's name.
black_and_whitetrue/false- Whether the photo was asked for in black and white.
blurnumber- How blurred the photo was asked for, 0 meaning sharp.
content_typetext- The saved file's media type. Empty when the photo was not saved.
credittext- A ready-made credit line, e.g. 'Photo by André Spieker on Unsplash'.
credit_urltext- The photo's page on Unsplash, to link the credit to.
document_reftext- The saved file's reference, for a step that attaches or uploads it. Empty when the photo was not saved.
documentslist- The saved photo, ready to attach to a later step. Empty unless 'Also save the photo as a file' was turned on.
file_typetext- The file type the photo comes back in: 'jpg' or 'webp'.
file_urltext- A URL that serves the saved copy. Empty when the photo was not saved. This is not the photo's own address -- that is 'url'.
heightnumber- How tall the photo is, in pixels.
image_tagtext- The same link as a ready-made HTML <img> tag, sized and with alt text, for a step that writes an email body or a web page.
nametext- The name this photo belongs to. Empty unless the photo was asked for by name.
original_heightnumber- How tall the original photograph is, before it was cropped to the size you asked for.
original_widthnumber- How wide the original photograph is, before it was cropped to the size you asked for.
photo_idtext- The photo's id in the Lorem Picsum catalogue, e.g. '237'. Store it and Get a specific photo will fetch this exact photo again.
saved_as_filetrue/false- Whether a copy of the photo was saved as a file.
size_bytesnumber- The saved file's size in bytes. 0 when the photo was not saved.
urltext- The photo's address. It always shows this same photo, so it is safe to store on a record, paste into an email or use as an image source.
widthnumber- How wide the photo is, in pixels.

}Get photos for a list of names
Give this a list of names and get one photo for each, in the order they were given: a whole product catalogue, every customer in a demo account, the rows of a spreadsheet. Each name keeps its own photo on every run. Nothing is fetched, so a list of two hundred costs no more than a list of two, but the photographer is not reported, so use Get a photo for a name where a credit is needed. No account or API key required.
Inputs
- Names
nameslistRequired - The names to build photos for, one photo each, in the order given. Up to 250 at a time. Wire a list in from an earlier step: a column of product names, the customers in a report, the rows of a spreadsheet.
- Width
