REFUGE Restrooms

Find safe, accessible restrooms from REFUGE Restrooms, the volunteer-built directory of gender-neutral and ADA accessible restrooms used by transgender, intersex and gender-nonconforming people worldwide. Search around a set of coordinates and get the nearest ones with the distance and direction to each, filter for accessible, unisex or a changing table, or search the whole directory by place name, city or a word from a listing's directions. Summarize how well an area is covered before a trip, and watch for listings added or corrected since a date. Every listing comes back with its directions, comments, community votes and a map link. No account or API key required.

Find restrooms nearby

Find the safe restrooms closest to a latitude and longitude, nearest first, each with how far away it is and in which direction. Filter for ADA accessible, unisex, or a changing table, and set a walking radius. REFUGE Restrooms searches 20 miles around the point and no further, so a rural search can come back empty. No API key required.

Get new restrooms since

Get the restrooms added to the directory on or after a date: the check to run on a schedule. Pass the date of the last run and this returns only what volunteers have contributed since, with a yes or no beside it so a quiet week posts nothing. No API key required.

Get updated restrooms since

Get the listings corrected or re-approved on or after a date. An edit on REFUGE Restrooms replaces the listing once a moderator approves it, so this is how a workflow notices that a restroom it saved has changed: moved, closed, or had its accessibility corrected. Rows come back newest-listed first rather than most-recently-changed first, which is how the service orders them. No API key required.

List restrooms from the whole directory, newest listing first, a page at a time. Filter to accessible or unisex listings. Use it for a feed of what the community is adding, or to sample the dataset; use 'Find restrooms nearby' when you know where you are and 'Search restrooms' when you know what you are looking for. No API key required.

Search the whole REFUGE Restrooms directory for text: a place name, a street, a city, a country, or a word from a listing's directions or comments. Use it to find a specific venue, or everything listed in a town you have no coordinates for. Filter to accessible or unisex listings and page through the matches. No API key required.

Summarize restrooms nearby

Count the safe restrooms around a latitude and longitude and break them down: how many are ADA accessible, how many unisex, how many have a changing table, and which is nearest of each.
