SEC EDGAR
App · Accounting & Finance · 17 actions
Pull SEC filings and company financials into a workflow, straight from EDGAR: a company's profile and filing history, the numbers it reports in XBRL, and the text of any filing since 1993. Look a company up by ticker rather than by its ten-digit SEC id, read the figures behind an annual report, compare one line item across every company that reported it, or search the full text of every filing since 2001 for a phrase. Watch the live feed for 8-Ks as they are filed, walk the daily and quarterly indexes, and read or download any filing document. Free and public: no account, no API key, and nothing to pay for.
Actions
| Action | What it does |
|---|---|
| Compare one figure across companies | One financial concept for every company that reported it in a period, largest first: every filer's total assets last quarter, or every filer's revenue last year. |
| Download a filing document | Download a filing as a file, so a later step can attach it to an email, post it to a chat or put it in storage. |
| Find companies | Look up a filer's CIK by name or ticker, across every company, fund and individual that has ever filed with the SEC. |
| Find mutual funds | Look up a mutual fund or ETF share class by its symbol, and get the CIK, series id and class id EDGAR files it under. |
| Get a company | Everything EDGAR publishes about one filer: its name and former names, tickers and exchanges, industry code, filer category, fiscal year end, state of incorporation and addresses, plus its most recent filing. |
| Get a financial concept | Every figure one company has reported for one financial concept, newest first, straight from its XBRL filings: total assets each quarter, revenue each year, shares outstanding at each cover date. |
| Get several financial concepts | Several of a company's financial concepts at once, in a single request: assets, revenue and net income side by side for a summary or a spreadsheet row. |
| List a company's filings | One company's filings, newest first, narrowed to the forms and dates you care about: its annual reports, the 8-Ks it filed last month, every insider trade this year. |
| List a company's financial concepts | The financial line items one company reports in XBRL, with what each one means and how many figures it has, but none of the numbers. |
| List filing documents | Every file in one filing: the report itself and each of its exhibits, press releases and data files, with a link and a size for each. |
| List filings for a day | Every filing EDGAR disseminated on one day, from its daily index: the full list rather than the most recent few, which is what a nightly workflow reads. |
| List filings for a quarter | Every filing EDGAR received in one calendar quarter, from its full index, going back to 1993: for a study of who filed what, or to build the list a longer analysis runs over. |
| List form types | EDGAR's own catalog of what each form and each 8-K item code means, so a workflow can turn '8-K' and '5.02' into 'Current report' and 'Departure of Directors or Certain Officers' before it writes a message. |
| List listed companies | List the companies with a ticker on a US exchange, from the SEC's own ticker file: everything on Nasdaq, the NYSE, CBOE or OTC, or the ones whose name or ticker matches. |
| List the latest filings | The filings EDGAR has just accepted, across every company, newest first. |
| Read a filing document | Read a filing as plain text, so a later step can summarise it, search it or answer questions about it. |
| Search filing text | Search the full text of every EDGAR filing since 2001 for a word or phrase: which companies mention a technology, name a competitor or disclose a risk. |
Compare one figure across companies
One financial concept for every company that reported it in a period, largest first: every filer's total assets last quarter, or every filer's revenue last year. The SEC lines up the reporting dates that best fit a calendar quarter, so companies with different financial years can be compared. No API key required.
Inputs
- Taxonomy
taxonomytext - Which accounting vocabulary the concept belongs to. US GAAP covers almost every US company's financials; foreign private issuers report under IFRS; the cover-page facts of any filing (shares outstanding, fiscal year end) are in DEI.One of:
us-gaap(US GAAP (most US company financials)),ifrs-full(IFRS (foreign private issuers)),dei(Document and Entity Information (cover-page facts)),srt(SEC Reporting Taxonomy (shared elements)). Default:us-gaap. - Concept
concepttextRequired - Which financial line item to compare. This one is typed rather than chosen, because the concept is not tied to any one company; run List a company's financial concepts against a company in the industry to find the exact tag.
- Unit
unittext - What the figure is measured in. It has to match how the concept is reported: a money figure is USD, a share count is shares, earnings per share is USD-per-shares.One of:
USD(US dollars),USD-per-shares(US dollars per share (e.g. earnings per share)),shares(A share count),pure(A ratio or plain number with no unit). Default:USD. - Year
yearnumberRequired - The calendar year to compare. XBRL data starts in 2009, when the SEC first required it.From 2009 to 2027.
- Period
quartertext - Which part of that year. A point-in-time figure is published per quarter only, so pick a quarter for one of those rather than the full year. One of:
FY(Full year),Q1(Q1 (Jan to Mar)),Q2(Q2 (Apr to Jun)),Q3(Q3 (Jul to Sep)),Q4(Q4 (Oct to Dec)). Default:FY. - Measured
measuredtext - Whether the figure covers the period or is a snapshot at the end of it. Balance-sheet lines (Assets, Liabilities, StockholdersEquity) are snapshots; income and cash-flow lines (Revenues, NetIncomeLoss) cover the period. Choosing the wrong one is why a concept that exists comes back empty. One of:
duration(Over the period (income statement and cash flow, e.g. Revenues)),instant(At the end of the period (balance sheet, e.g. Assets)). Default:duration. - Number of results
limitnumber - How many companies to return, newest or most relevant first. Between 1 and 500.From 1 to 500. Default:
100.
Outputs
concepttext- The XBRL tag that was compared.
countnumber- How many records this step returned.
descriptiontext- The accounting definition of what the figure includes.
has_moretrue/false- Whether more records matched than were returned.
labeltext- What that tag is called in English.
periodtext- The period that was compared, in the SEC's own notation, e.g. 'CY2024Q1I'.
taxonomytext- The vocabulary the concept comes from.
total_matchednumber- How many records matched in total, which is larger than the count when the batch size cut the list short.
unittext- The unit the figures are in, as the SEC spells it.
valueslist- One figure per company, largest first.

}Download a filing document
Download a filing as a file, so a later step can attach it to an email, post it to a chat or put it in storage. Leave the document blank for the filing itself rather than one of its exhibits. No API key required.
Inputs
- Company
companytextRequired - The company that made the filing. Give a ticker (AAPL), a CIK (0000320193) or the company's name; whichever you use is looked up against the SEC's ticker list and EDGAR's own filer index. Run Find companies first if you are not sure which filer you want.
- Accession number
accession_numbertextRequired - The filing's accession number, which is EDGAR's id for one submission. Every filing listing reports it as 'accession_number'; both the dashed and undashed spellings are accepted.
- Document
documenttext - Which file in the filing to read. Leave blank for the filing itself (the report rather than one of its exhibits), which is what almost every workflow wants. Run List filing documents to see the exhibits.
Outputs
accession_numbertext- The filing this came from.
byte_sizenumber- How large it is.
ciktext- The company's CIK, EDGAR's ten-digit id for a filer. Every other action accepts it in place of a ticker.
content_typetext- What kind of file it is.
documenttext- Which file in the filing was downloaded.
document_reftext- The stored document's reference.
documentslist- The downloaded file, as a document a later step can attach or upload.
source_urltext- The document's own address on sec.gov.
urltext- Where this workspace can fetch it.

Each figure carries the period it covers, the form it came from and when it was filed. No API key required.
Inputs
- Company
companytextRequired - The company whose figures to read. Give a ticker (AAPL), a CIK (0000320193) or the company's name; whichever you use is looked up against the SEC's ticker list and EDGAR's own filer index. Run Find companies first if you are not sure which filer you want.

concepttextRequired - Which financial line item to read. The choices are the concepts this company actually reports, so pick the company first.
- Unit
unittext - Keep only the figures reported in one unit of measure. Leave blank for all of them; the answer lists which units this concept has been reported in.
- Form types
form_typeslist - Keep only figures filed on these EDGAR forms: 10-K for an annual report, 10-Q for a quarterly one, 8-K for a material event, 4 for an insider trade. Amendments are included with the form they amend, so 10-K also matches 10-K/A. Choose none to keep every form.

Inputs
- Company
companytextRequired - The company that made the filing. Give a ticker (AAPL), a CIK (0000320193) or the company's name; whichever you use is looked up against the SEC's ticker list and EDGAR's own filer index. Run Find companies first if you are not sure which filer you want.

Outputs
accession_numbertext- The filing these documents belong to.
ciktext- The company's CIK, EDGAR's ten-digit id for a filer. Every other action accepts it in place of a ticker.

}Read a filing document
Read a filing as plain text, so a later step can summarise it, search it or answer questions about it. The markup and the inline XBRL tagging are stripped, so the text starts where the report starts.
- Maximum characters
max_charactersnumber - How much of the text to return. An annual report runs past 200,000 characters, which is more than most later steps can take at once, so the text is cut here and the answer says it was. From 1 to 200000. Default:
20000.
Outputs
accession_numbertext- The filing this came from.
charactersnumber- How many characters were returned.
ciktext- The company's CIK, EDGAR's ten-digit id for a filer. Every other action accepts it in place of a ticker.
content_typetext- What kind of file it was.
documenttext- Which file in the filing was read.
filing_urltext- The filing's index page on sec.gov.
texttext- The document's text, with its markup stripped.
total_charactersnumber- How many the whole document holds.
truncatedtrue/false- Whether the text was cut short.
urltext- A direct link to it on sec.gov.

}Search filing text
Search the full text of every EDGAR filing since 2001 for a word or phrase: which companies mention a technology, name a competitor or disclose a risk. Put a phrase in double quotes to match it exactly, and put a minus in front of a quoted phrase to exclude it. No API key required.
Inputs
- Search for
querytextRequired - What to look for in the filing text. "in quotes" matches the exact phrase; -"in quotes" excludes one. Without quotes, all of the words must appear.
- Form types
form_typeslist - Keep only filings filed on these EDGAR forms: 10-K for an annual report, 10-Q for a quarterly one, 8-K for a material event, 4 for an insider trade. Amendments are included with the form they amend, so 10-K also matches 10-K/A. Choose none to keep every form.
- Company
companytext - The company to search within. Give a ticker (AAPL), a CIK (0000320193) or the company's name; whichever you use is looked up against the SEC's ticker list and EDGAR's own filer index. Run Find companies first if you are not sure which filer you want. Leave blank to search across every filer.
- Filed on or after
filed_afterdate - Keep only filings filed on or after this date. Optional.
- Filed on or before
filed_beforedate - Keep only filings filed on or before this date. Optional.
- Location
locationtext - Keep only the filings from companies in one state or country. Leave blank for everywhere.
- Location means
location_typetext - Whether the location above is where the company operates or where it is incorporated. The two differ for most US companies, which incorporate in Delaware. One of:
located(Where the filer is located (principal place of business)),incorporated(Where the filer is incorporated). Default:located. - Skip
offsetnumber - How many results to skip, for walking a long list a page at a time. Each run returns 100; pass the previous run's 'next_offset' to get the next 100. EDGAR will not serve a result past the ten-thousandth.From 0 to 9900. Default:
0.
Outputs
countnumber- How many records this step returned.
has_moretrue/false- Whether more records matched than were returned.
next_offsetnumber- What to pass as 'Skip' to get the next page, or empty when there is no next page.
offsetnumber- How many results this run skipped.
querytext- What was searched for.
resultslist- The matching filing documents, best match first.
total_is_exacttrue/false- Whether the total is the real count. EDGAR stops counting at ten thousand, so a false here means 'at least that many'.
total_matchednumber- How many records matched in total, which is larger than the count when the batch size cut the list short.
